Ten Men Inter Tame Celtic Lions
Sat 30th July 2011. Dublin Super Cup
Inter Milan 2-0 Celtic
All the pre match talk surrounding Game 2 of the Dublin Super Cup involved reminiscing back to Lisbon, 1967, when Celtic and Inter Milan done battle for the European Cup.
Unfortunately, and as with Game 1, the match proved to be somewhat of a damp squib with little or none of the excitement of the pre match expectation. While the crowd improved greatly, it was still a far cry from what many would have expected.
Inter, despite playing most of the match with 10 men after Thiago Motta was dismissed, ran out comfortable 2-0 winners, with Celtic looking like a distant shadow of their 1967 counterparts. The fact that they have already started their domestic League didnt help the competition as keeping players fit and injury free will have quite rightly been a priority.
The Celtic fans though seemed blissfully unaware of the poor display on the pitch as they spent most of the 90 minutes singing and in the huddle … although having their backs to the pitch was probably part craic and part excuse to not have to watch the game!
