Big Win For Garrycastle Young Guns

Saturday 3rd Nov 2012 – Under 21
Garryacstle 4-10 … 0-7 St Malachys Ballinagore

Garrycastle Under 21’s steam rolled past St Malachys Ballingarore on a cold and wet Saturday evening as they ran out winners by 15 points in difficult playing conditions.

With the Under 21 level largely overlooked due to a variety of reasons, the visitors arrived with just the bare bones to make up the 15, while Garrycastle had just 1 substitute available.

The Garrycastle team reaped the benefit of sucessful adult sides with a number of players having lined out for Junior and Senior teams both this, and last year.

As the game went on in the mud and rain, the Malachys defence were no match for Eoin Monaghan who chipped in with 2 goals, and could have had 2 more but for the width of the crossbar.

The visitors could have narrowed the gap several times during the match, however innacurate free taking did them no favors. Garryacstle had no worries on that front with Alex Gardiner keeping a cool head to tap over points from frees and play to add to his 1st half goal.

Up front, Enda Keena and Paul Gunning also got in on the act with impressive displays while at the back Gary McCallon and Gary Mullery ensured very little go through to Michael Fagan in goals. On the rare occassion Malachys did get through on goal, Fagan was equal to their efforts with safe hands and some fine saves.

Sean Brennan continued to live up to his “utility player” reputation as he lined out in midfield. Brennan has already played in goals for the Seniors this year while also lining out at full back and half forward for the Juniors in recent seasons.
