Celtic Win The “All Ireland”
Sun 31th July 2011. Dublin Super Cup
Airtricity League XI 0-5 Celtic.
Yes, the commentator/interviewer in the Aviva Stadium on Sunday actually announced that she was looking forward to the “All Ireland” clash between the Airtricity League XI …. and Celtic.
Despite some peoples insistance that a tournament like the Dublin Super Cup will be a showcase for the doimestic League, unfortunately very few will remember any decent performances from the League of Ireland players as the scoreline is all that will be talked about.
From the on field action though, the tussle of the day was definately between Joe Gamble and Gary Hooper with the pair tearing into each other at every opportunity. Celtic pulled out all the stops for the “Irish derby” by fielding Anthony Stokes, Darren O’Dea and former League of Ireland players Daryl Murphy and Pat McCourt.
And while the fans sang “Oooh Ahhh Up The Ra”, “Stokes Da, He Hates The Queen” and “The Fields Of Athenry” … the sad fact was the Aviva Stadium was full of Irish people, waving Irish tri-colours, to show their support for a British club playing against an Irish representitive side.
