City Knock The Wind Out Of Airtricity Sails

Sat 30th July 2011. Dublin Super Cup
Manchester City 3-0 Airtricity League XI

A largely unknown Manchester City team opened their Dublin Super Cup account with a win over an Airtricity League XI at the Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Road.
With the European exploits of Shamrock Rovers, Sligo Rovers and St Patricks Athletic, the League representitive team had a smaller selection pool than would have been liked, and with commotion surrounding players payments, along with “ShowerGate” there was always an uncertainty about how the team would perform.

Some games have it all … unfortunately this was not one of those games. It proved to be lack lustre affair played in front of an extremly low and uninterested crowd. The only noise for large periods of the game was a loud booing from Celtic fans whenever Man City, and former Rangers, player Vladamir Weiss got near the ball.
Adam Johnson and Shaun Wright-Phillips did get crackers of goals however but thats about all that can be said about the match.
