Town Slump To Shels

Saturday 9th April 2011. Airtricity League Division 1
Athlone Town 0-4 Shelbourne

Athlone slumped to their first home defeat of the season with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Shelbourne.

Town welcomed back Garry Higgins to the starting lineup but the front man failed to finish the 90 minutes after pulling up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury in the second half.

Once again Micheal Schlingermann pulled off a string of fine saves to ensure Shels only went into the break one up. As the second half progress Shels stepped up a gear to finish off a resounding victory.

Athlones injury list took another hit when Jamie Carr pulled up during the second half, and with 3 subs having already being used Town had to finish the game with the numericial disadvantage.

But to take some positive out of the game, Bobby Tier finally got to make his Athlone debut.
