Second Blood To Longford in El Classico

Saturday 2nd April 2011. Airtricity League.
Longford Town 2-0 Athlone Town. Flancare Park.

Longford Town claimed the 2nd El Classico win of the year, and put an end to Athlones unbeaten League run, with a 2-0 win at Flancare Park.

All media spotlights (bar this one) were waiting in anticipation of Keith Gillespies Longford debut, but the former Northern Ireland international didnt really have much to do when he eventually came on.

Although Athlone battled well in the 2nd half, the game was effectively over after the opening 15 minutes when Michael Schlingermann misjudged a cross to let in the opener (claimed by Jacques Morley) and then former friend of the Town, Austin Skelly, netted (and briefly celebrated!!!!) against his former club!
