Peters Leave It Late

Sunday 13th February 2011. FAI Junior Cup Round 6. McCarthy Park.
St. Peters 3-2 (aet) FC Blanch

A Brian Caldwell goal in the closing stages of extra time sent St Peters through to the next round of the FAI Junior Cup at the expense of FC Blanch of Dublin.

Peters took an early lead as Damien Rushe headed home a Kevin Dunne cross from close range before Brian Caldwell doubled their advantage. Despite some tough tackling Peters looked good for the lead until the last minute of the 1st half a mix up between Declan Fallon and Keith Hynes resulted int he full back heading into the top corner of his own net.

The 2nd half was much as the first until Blanch pulled level via a Mick Mooney penalty, much to the delight of the partizan away crowd. As tackles kept flying in, Blanch were reduced to 10 men when Brian Lawlor saw red of an off the ball incident.

As extra time was playing out the away fans began whistling signaling their desire for a penalty shootout, but just when it looked likely the game would be decided that way, Brian Caldwell popped up to net the winner. Queue the Peters fans turn to beckon the final whistle and a next round tie against Ballinasloe.
