Czech Mate

Wednesday 29th February 2012. International Friendly
Republic of Ireland 1-1 Czech Republic

The Republic of Ireland stretched their unbeaten run to 12 games in a run of the mill friendly against the Czech Republic at Lansdowne Road.

While the game itself was devoid of any real entertainment, the 2 loudest cheers of the night went to the couple who got engaged on the pitch at half time and the arrival of James McClean on the international scene.

Five miutes into the second half Milan Baros gave the away side the lead when he took advantage of loose tracking by John O’Shea to calmly slot the ball past Shay Given.

With the Czechs having the majority of possession throught the game, substitute Simon Cox sprang up late to level things with a cool finish through the legs of Petr Cech.

And so Ireland first game since qualifying for Euro 2012 ended in a dour draw but as Trappatoni himself has said “If you can’t win … don’t lose”
