Jeepers Keepers As Willow Win Darby
Saturday 21st January 2012. CCFL Senior Division
Willow Park 4-2 St Peters
Willow Park maintained their position at the top of the CCFL Senior Division with a 4-2 win over local rivals St Peters.
Both line ups looked a little unfamilair at the start with midfielder Michael Harney starting in goals for Willow Park, while between the sticks for St Peters stood centre half Tom Silke.
Willow took advantage of the goalkeeping changes when Robbie Shine was first to a clearance from Silke from the edge of the box. The defender took his time before lifting the ball over the Peters defence and into the corner of the net from 30 yards out.
The home side doubled their advantage in the second half, again from the boot of Shine as he lifted a free kick over the wall and into the net.
St Peters started to get back into the game and were rewarded with a penalty and Adrian Carberry, on as a substitute, made no mistake from the spot.
Brian Caldwell added a third after he lifted the ball over the stranded Silke to score against his former club to regain the 2 goal advantage before Willow were gifted a 4th when centre half Sean Kenny handled the ball inside the 6 yard box. From the penalty spot Robbie Shine rounded off a hat-trick.
Not to lie down at that, Peters went on the attack again and pulled one back courtsey of Davy Donaghue. They almost nicked another near the end but for a good save from Harney.
And so it ended 4-2 but credit must go to both stand-in keepers who pulled off some good saves in an entertaining tie.
