Cup Joy For Willow

Saturday 13th August 2011. CCFL Over 35’s Cup Final
Willow Park 3-1 Longford Celtic. Leah Victoria Park.

Goals from Ronan Fagan, Tony O’Sullivan and Fergal Nugent gave Willow Park a 3-1 vctory over Longford Celtic to claim the 2011 CCFL/PMBC Over 35’s Cup at Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore.

The game itself proved to be a niggly affair with a lot of mouthing back and forth between both sides. Longford, having previously beaten Willow in the League stages, had apparently sneered after the earlier victory so the Athlone side were out to make amends.

Ronan Fagan opened the scoring for Willow when he calmly slid the ball past Longford keeper Norris Kalinauskas before Tony O’Sullivan proved that his spectacular goal in the semi final was no fluke when he unleashed another powerful shot from distance into the top corner of the net.

Longford themselves pulled one back before the break with a cracking long range shot, but in the second half Fergal Nugent wrapped things to up secure the cup for Willow Park.
