Willow Advance To Over 35’s Final

Willow Park 2-1 Mullingar Athletic

Willow Park booked an Over 35’s Cup final spot with a 2-1 win over Mullingar Athletic as the rain pelted down in the Midlands.

Gordon Rushe opened the scoring with a first half header as Willow pounded the Mullingar defence with wave after wave of attack.

The second half proved to be a different story with Mullingar finally seeming to wake up and have a go at Willow. And while Mullingar looked good to get an equaliser they were left shell shocked when Tony O’Sullivan let fly from distance to send the ball beyond the keepers reach and into the top corner to double Willows advantage.

But not to let the heads drop, Athletic came back strong and pulled a goal back after a goalmouth scramble. They followed up with two shots coming back off the post while another skimmed the crossbar before they thought to have leveled the game but for an offside flag.

And so it ended, 2-1 to Willow and a Cup final against Longford Celtic.
