Garrycastle Ease Past Shamrocks

Sunday 17th July 2011. westmeath Senior Championship.
Mullingar Shamrocks 0-07 … 2-10 Garrycastle. Cusack Park.

Garrycastle cruised to a 9 point victory over Mullingar Shamrocks in wet and blustery conditions at Cusack Park. Although a tough battle was expected, Shamrocks barely got out of the starting blocks while Garrycastle didnt really need to up their gear to claim the victory.

Garrycastle went into the break with a 5 point lead thanks to a blistering run upfield by John O’Shaughnessy to latch on to a pass from Rory McGowan, and desipte losing control of the ball the defender managed to let fly on the half volley to sent the ball crashing into the net.

The second half played out much the same as the first with Conor Cosgrove adding a goal to his points tally with a powerful left foot shot that came close to bursting the net and ending up in the Drapery Dept of Dunnes Stores. Karl Henson then almost emulated O’Shaughnessy goal with run from defence, but the wing back calmly slotted the ball over the bar to widen the winning margin.
