Late Late Shamrocks Show
Tuesday 21st June 2011. Airtriciry League Premier Division
Shamrock Rovers 2-2 Dundalk. Tallaght Stadium
Shamrock Rovers came from 2 goals down on a horrendous Tuesday evening in Tallaght to snatch a last gasp draw with Dundalk to keep themselves top of the Premier Division. As the rain bucketed down, Dundalk went into a first half lead when Mark Griffin calmly slotted the ball past Alan Mannus in the Rovers goal. Griffen doubled his, and Dundalks tally in the second half with a close range header.
Rovers will surly be questioning the officials with a number of questionable decisions which went against them, before substitute Chris Turner pounced on a poor punch from goalkeeper Peter Cherrie to fire the ball home as the keeper was stranded. As the game went into the dying minutes Billy Dennehy sent the home support into ecstasy with a looping header which sailed over Cherries head and into the goal for the qualiser. Credit to Cherrie though as moments before he pulled off a fantastic save from Ken Omans powerful drive.
And so it ended 2-2 with a chorus of “Thats Why We’re Champions” from the Rovers fans.
