Ten Man Town Take A Point In Drom

Saturday 19th March 2011. Airtricity League Division 1
Salthill Devon 1-1 Athlone Town. Drom.

A first half equaliser by former Athlone Town trialist Etanda Nkololo was enough to earn Salthill a share of the spoils after Garry Higgins, courtesy of a extremely wet surface, slotted the ball under Ronan Forde for an early lead.

Torrential rain ruined any chance of an enjoyable match and although Town had their chances it was backs to the walls stuff for the final half hour after Kevin Williamson saw red for an apparent 1-footed lunge. Hard to see from where I was perched but other spectators nearer the incident thought a yellow would have been more appropriate along with a card for a Salthill player who lashed out at the Town captain!

While any Town fans not present might see it as 2 points dropped, the large traveling contingent chalked it down to another battling performance, under pressure to maintain an unbeaten status in the League.
