Willow Go Ga-Ga!

Wednesday 23rd February 2011. Leinster Senior Cup
Willow Park 2-1 Crumlin United.

A goal deep into injury time from Colin ‘Ga’ Fortune sent Willow Park through to the next round of the Leinster Senior Cup where they will face League of Ireland opposition.

But it wasnt all Willows way. After having a goal disallowed for offside, Crumlin took a first half lead thanks to former Kilkenny City & Shelbourne striker Tony Griffiths. Willow then had a penalty appeal turned down, much to the anger of the home crowd. Despite that, the majority of the home sideline felt lucky to be going into the break only 1 down.

The half time team talk seemed to kick start Willow and when they finally started to have a proper run at the visitors they got their just rewards when Colm Hyland advanced on goal before squaring the ball to Brian Frawley, and the former Athlone Town striker made no mistake from close range.

As the game moved on both sides matched each other, chance for chance, challenge for challenge until deep into injury time, with extra time an almost certainty, a ball over the top found Aidan Hyland on the edge of the endline and 6 yard box. Hyland shaped to strike but instead pulled the ball back to Colin Fortune who blasted the ball home to send Willow through to the late 8 of the Cup.
