Cup Joy For The Red Rovers
Sunday 14th November 2010. FAI Cup Final. Aviva Stadium
Sligo Rovers 0-0 Shamrock Rovers (AET)
Sligo win 2-0 on penalties
It will billed as the battle of the Rovers … Sligo vs Shamrock, West vs East, Culchies vs Jackeens, Clash of the Titans … Benny The Bull vs Hooperman! Although the 90 minutes of normal time, plus the 30 in extra time only produced around 3 shots on target, the real excitement came during the penalty shootout when former Athlone Town keeper Ciaran “Tracksuit” Kelly stood tall to save all 4 Shamrock Rovers spot kicks and send the Cup to The Showgrounds.
