Westmeath Conquer The Kingdom

Saturday 3rd July 2010 – Christy Ring Cup Final
Westmeath 2-16 … 1-18 Kerry

A point in the final 10 seconds of injury time gave Westmeath the narrowest of victories against Kerry in the 2010 Christy Ring Cup Final at Croke Park.

In a real ding-dong battle, Westmeath opened the scoring but Kerry burst into a lead with some well taken scores. The Lakers bounced back every time and it wasnt long before the Counties were matching each other score for score.

The Kerrymen can feel somewhat aggrevied with the nature of the winner with the pass for the winning point looking more like a throw than a regulation hand pass. With just enough time to take the puc out, referee Tony Carroll blew the whistle to see Westmeath win title and Andrew Mitchell lift the Cup.
