Peters Advance To Cup Final
Thurs 20th May 2010 – Combined Counties Cup Semi Final
Willow Park 1-2 St Peters (AET)
A Showry Harney goal, in the 3rd minute of injury time, sent this local darby cup semi final into extra time, but it was all a bit too much for the Willow lads as Peters somehow found the extra energy to score a winner.
In a real “game of 2 halves”, Peters got off to a flyer and were by far the better side in the 1st half with wave after wave of attack. Then it was Willows turn to run the game in the 2nd half. Despite being on top in the half, Willow conceeded a penalty after some good skill from Paschal Dillon lead to a dubious penalty and Adrian Carberry made no mistake from the spot kick.
Willow kept plugging away, doing almost everything but scoring, right up to the 93rd minute when super sub Michael Harney netted an equaliser to force extra time.
In extra time though it was all about Peters. The Saints own super sub, Brian Caldwell, slotted past Ian Bolger in the 1st period of extra time to put them into a 2-1 lead, a goal that turned out to be the match winner.
And so it ended 2-1 to Peters and a bit of revenge for their Paddy Cotter cup semi final defeat at the hands of Willow earlier int he month!
