Good Friday … Terrible Game!

Airtricity League – Division 1. 2nd April 2010
Monaghan United 0-0 Athlone Town

A Good Friday trip to Gortakeegan and there was certainly no meat in Athlone Town performance as they were fortunate to steal a point from Mons … and another red card to add to the collection.

Monaghan only really looked to be a danger after Gareth Kenna saw red after a lunging tackle on Darragh Hanaphy resulted in the Monaghan man being strechered off only 4 minutes after entering the game as a sub.

Athlone had a couple of chances of note, Brian McCarthy had a powerful header fly just wide of the mark and in the 2nd half Stephen Place had a shot that unfortunately went out for a throw!

Efforts from Richie O’Hanlon and Mark Nolan failed to trouble Gabriel Sava in the Mons goal but it was Mons who will feel aggrevied with a goal disallowed and a number of chances off target!

So overall it was a shocking game but a point, not exactly earned but more stolen!!
