Town Cant Breech Derry Walls
Airtricity League – Division 1, Friday 26th March 2010
Derry City 1-0 Athlone Town
Town fell to their first defeat of the season in possibly the most lack lustre game I’ve ever had the misfortune of getting to. Although some “Navigation Issues” led to us missing the opening 15 minutes … and the goal … I almost wish I had missed more of the game (I’ll probably deny I ever made such a comment later!)!
Derry for their part were quite poor, a lot worse than I expected, and so while some thought a 1-0 defeat against the former Premier Division outfit was a “respectable result” …. anyone who was there would agree that City were definately there for the taking. The highight of the entire match, for me anyway, was seeing and listening to the passionate home support. They banged their drums (on a co-ordinated fashion) and belted out some chants to great effect … and they screamed blue murder at every little decision (right or wrong) that didnt go their way …. everything from being flagged 3 yards off-side to Athlone taking a free kick approximately 12 centimeters away from the actual foul!
And for future reference … The Brandywell is straight over the Craigavon Bridge … not the Foyle Bridge!!!

you see, if you had of went in from the donegal side and not the tyrone side, you would have found it straight away, serves you right 😛
We did go through the Donegal side … stopped in Ballybofey for chips and almost stayed for Harps v Limerick. Went home through Tyrone as we were assured the roads were better!!!! Pure lies!
aye but i reckon, and i could be wrong here, but i reckon you went by lifford/strabane, from ballybofey. that was your downfall! should of went in by letterkenny
Correct, when we stopped for chips I bumped into a Harps fan I know and he reckoned that was the quickest route. Damn chipper was slow as christmas so we got delayed more than planned … so our hunger was our downfall!
