Airtricity League – Division 1. Saturday 13th March 2010.
Athlone Town 1-0 Mervue United

Town continued their rampage on Connaught teams on Saturday night when they held out for another nervous 1-0 victory. Lissywollen old boys Dave O’Dowd and Darren Young lined out for Mervue, with O’Dowd scuppering an early chance to score against his old club.
Once again Austin Skelly ran up and down the pitch like a mad March hare, putting in a well deserved Man of the Match performance. But the big news from the game was the Return of the Mac! Brian McCarthy, making his home debut, for the 2nd time around, threw himself into a 51st minute header to put Athlone in the lead.
Chris Bennion came to the rescue again late on with an acrobatic diving save to ensure Athlone Town made it 2 from 2 and sit (joint) Top Of The League.
